Can't Save Files

I have just purchased TB Gold, and am running into all sorts of bugs in the Editor. The most troublesome is that it will not save files. I create a new program, select Save or Save As from the File menu, and get the following error message: "Invalid Window ID Menu Item Combination". When I push the OK button, I get a follow up error message: "File is read or write protected." That happens whether it's a brand new program that I just wrote and have not previously saved - so there's no existing file to be read or write protected - or whether it is one of my .TRU files that I opened. I'd be grateful for help. Without being able to save files, TB will be nearly useless to me.

Are you trying to save the file to a directory that is write protected by Windows. Where have you installed True Basic. Mine is in C:\True Basic. I save files into My Documents folder or Desktop without any issues as Windows allows this. Moving True Basic out of the protected Programs folder may help a few problems.

Thanks so much, Dave. I've been trying to save to a thumb drive. TB opens files from the thumb drive, but won't save to it. Thanks to your suggestion, I just tried saving to the hard drive instead, and it worked. I can copy from there to the thumb drive.

I will also get these types of warnings from time to time when trying to save to a Cloud based drive.

There is a Registry fix for the protected folder problem.
It's called "Take ownership.reg" and another called "Grant admin full control"
Merge one of these into the reg and you right clicking on a folder gives you the option to own it.
No more problem saving files to protected folders.
Is it safe? Yes! I've been using it for some years now Google will find it for you.
