doctorchekk xbones Ok I'm running macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 with processor 3.8GHz. 8-core Intel Core i7 Is it possible to just get this True BASIC on a CD? Again....this is what I get when I double click on the file I was given to download: There is no application set to open the document “tb_bronze_6007_setup (1).msi”.
daveR As far as I am aware there is no version of True Basic that runs on a Mac. It is Windows only software. You downloaded a Windows installation file so your Mac OS cannot recognize the file type and has no way of running it.
xbones You will need a way to run Windows software on your computer. The recent TB version 6 are for Windows only. https://www.howtogeek.com/187359/5-ways-to-run-windows-software-on-a-mac/ TrueBasic 5.5 supports Macintosh computers.
xbones https://www.truebasic.com/products/p/tb-silver-v55 TB 5.5 Bronze seems to be for Windows only. Silver and Gold support Mac OS.
mcc All latest TB (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) run on Windows only. I don't know what the last version was that would run on a Mac. Quite a while back, I believe. Regaerds, Mike C.
xbones As I wrote before -- the store information reads as follows: True BASIC Silver Edition v5.5 $45.00 Platforms: Mac OS 9; Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, 2003/XP, Vista (32- and 64-bit), 7, & 8
doctorchekk xbones Ok xbones, I'm gonna buy a pc windows 11 laptop in the $600 range. Can you think of any restrictions I need to look out for? Like how much memory should it have etc. Thanks. doctorchekk
doctorchekk Thanks xbones, mcc, and daveR !! I am gonna Google how to put Windows on my mac. My brother thinks it is possible. Stay tuned.
daveR Take a look at the FAQ page under the about menu on the site. The first question there may point you in the right direction.
doctorchekk So I read the FAQ and saw that very informative first Q on how to put Windows on a Mac and it doesn't look particularly easy! I think I am gonna just go buy a cheap Windows 10 laptop and install True BASIC on that! I just don't think I want to screw around with my MacOS. Again thanks for all the help daveR. BTW....when I taught calc etc for 4 decades, I also taught a True BASIC class late in my career and I ended up loving it more than any of the math courses I taught! Just a lot of fun to learn and teach because students LOVE what you can do with programming in general and True BASIC in particular. I guess nowadays C++ is the language to learn, eh? All that said....how is it possible that in this tech day and age....nobody has developed a True BASIC compiler for a Mac?
xbones TrueBasic doesn't need many resources. If Windows starts, then TB should work, too. TrueBasic works better when it is installed to say "C:\TB" and not to "C:\Program Files\TrueBasic" because it is an old program.
doctorchekk xbones Thanks...picking up my Windows laptop Wednesday and looking forward to installing True BASIC. I presently have The Bronze software downloaded which I purchased from the True BASIC web site. Perhaps Silver would be better.....I gotta go check out the differences.
